Single Red = High Hazard High surf and/or strong currents Double Red = Extreme Hazard Water closed to the public. A red flag flying on a public beach means strong currents, possibly undertows, are present. Do not swim when red flags are present. If you are caught in a current or undertow, relax as much as possible until the current brings you back to the surface. Swim parallel to the shore until you are free of the current. Never swim alone.
